TEAS 7 test format: sections, timing and question types

The ATI TEAS 7 has 170 questions and 209 minutes of testing time (3 hours 29 minutes) across four sections: Reading (45 questions, 55 minutes), Math (38 questions, 57 minutes), Science (50 questions, 60 minutes) and English & Language Usage (37 questions, 37 minutes). 150 questions are scored and 20 are unscored pretest questions that look like the rest.
Sections at a glance
Each section is timed separately, and you cannot return to a section after moving on. Science is the largest section, and English has the least time per question.

Question types on the TEAS 7
Most questions are standard multiple choice with four options. TEAS 7 also uses alternate formats:
- Multiple select: choose every correct answer (select all that apply).
- Supply answer: type a number or word (fill in the blank).
- Ordered response: put steps or items in the correct order.
- Hot spot: click the correct part of an image, chart or sentence.
Practicing these formats in advance matters, because they take longer than ordinary multiple choice.
Pacing: time per question
- Reading: about 73 seconds per question.
- Math: about 90 seconds per question.
- Science: about 72 seconds per question.
- English & Language Usage: about 60 seconds per question.
How scoring works
You receive a total score and a score for each section and sub-area. There is no single national passing score: each nursing or allied-health program sets its own minimum, so check your program's requirement before you test.
Unscored pretest questions are not labeled, so treat every question as if it counts.
